Helen Boothby

Participant Teacher on the Royal Society of New Zealand’s Science Teacher Leadership Programme

Helen Boothby, a Science teacher at Hornby High School, is spending nearly 6 months working with our group. She is a Participant Teacher on the Royal Society of New Zealand’s Science Teacher Leadership Programme, funded by the MBIE. Helen has been teaching for 14 years, and prior to this worked in a range of outdoor and ecological roles. She is being supervised by Dr Jamie Wood and will be participating in a wide range of projects.  By being a participant teacher, Helen hopes to gain insight into how scientists collaborate with each other, and how they communicate with the wider community. She is looking forward to helping her students become scientifically literate citizens, better able to discuss others’ ideas and understanding of Science.
